China, or opposite land as I’ve come to call it this week, is just that…opposite. I’m sure you’ve all heard the phrase, ‘lefty loosey, righty tighty’, well yea me too. It doesn’t work here, in fact, it’s downright reverse. This has been messing with me for the last month, I just recently (aka yesterday) got the hang of turning the faucet in the right (of course I mean left, aka wrong!) direction to turn it off, or the hot and cold water in the shower…my first few showers were really cold!
Opposite Land:
This also makes sense when it comes to driving on the road, peeing in public, or say some of these…what I’m calling my favorite of the fun, scary, funny, weird, awesome and just huh?! things of this week, in no particular order; a man riding a bicycle while smoking and talking on the phone (now that’s talent!), toddlers on the back of motorbikes strapped with cord (not even the bungee kind!) and no helmets, the fact that the emergency number is 119 makes me laugh (I swear, it's true!), my fun 4-5 year old class jumping up and down when I said ‘green (go, go, go)’ then ‘yellow, slow, slow, slow’ and my favorite ‘red freeze’ then making them do it all over again just to hear them giggle and laugh (so fun and funny, my favorite is that they actually stayed frozen), Lays potato chips taste a little off, it’s like they forgot one main ingredient, grease (and that’s just wrong, how do they expect me to eat the whole bag when it tastes
similar to cardboard?!), fortunately for me Oreo’s taste exactly the same! Yum! I do love them, of course they don’t love me, but pain is worth the delicious taste of the familiar. (darn you gluten!)
Missing things from the US seems like it might as well be missing things from the moon, not that I miss that much, yet anyways. However, this week I miss French Toast, I know, it sounds strange and even to me it sounds strange, I don’t even LOVE French Toast. I like it sure, but it’s not my favorite breakfast dish ever, ever heard of a little crispy thing called Bacon!? But for me, looking for syrup here is like looking for duck tongues in the US, pretty hard to come by. Alas, I’ll have to survive for a while more
without syrup…just the normal French Toast toppings, peanut butter (my bf)…if I put it on while it’s still really hot, maybe it’ll turn into syrup!? :/
